What you'll need:
Clear Mason Jars - The amount is up to you, I used three. I suggest three or more. Having a lid or not is your personal choice.
White paint - This is so you don't need heaps of different shades of your paint colour
Paint of choice - If you don't have coloured paint I'm sure you could use food colouring
Paint brushes - I found out the hard way that sponges weren't very practical for this D.I.Y
Plastic/paper plate - to mix your paint on
Preparing for work:
Make sure where you are working is protected with either a cloth or newspaper. This D.I.Y can get messy and you don't want to ruin your floor or furniture. This is the same with clothes. Make sure you aren't wearing your favourite sweater or leave your Louis Vuitton's close by. I wore an oversized shirt and shorts that I didn't care about. Also if you have long hair like mine you might want to tie it back so you don't get paint in your hair. If you want you could clean your jars so you don't get dirt stuck on the jars when you go to paint.
Step 1:
First off you are going to want to create however many different shades of the colour you need. If you have three jars like me you are going to want three shades of your colour (in my case that was pink). You can get these shades by mixing your original paint colour with white until getting the colour desired. You will want a dark, medium and light shade of your chosen colour to create the ombre effect. To the right is an example of the colours I used.
Step 2:
Now once you've got your number of required shades of your colour you are going to choose which jar gets which shade of colour. For me it was simple since the jars were the same (which I highly recommend). But if you have three different sized jars you are going to want to choose the order. Then you can start painting the inside of your jars. *Remember when painting, each jar only gets one shade of the colour, so be carful not to mix up your brushes.
Also a helpful note is to keep the brush going in one direction whilst painting, whether is be upwards, or around so you don't get streaks.
Step 3:
Now that your jars are painted one colour each you are going to want to wait for the paint to COMPLETELY dry. I didn't wait the first time and learned quickly that the first layer of paint rubbed off once I put the second layer on. I ended up waiting over night to be sure and then put my second layer on to make the colours came out opaque. Repeat this process however many times it takes to become opaque, or with what your happy with. Then wait for your final layer of paint to dry.
Below is the end product!
And that my lovelies is how you can create this super cute Ombre Mason Jar.
I placed my jars on a high self in my bedroom but you can place them pretty much anywhere. You can use them for storage or just as cute decorations in the location of your choice.
I loved how mine turned out and would love to see your recreations on instagram (My instagram is CutelyCrafting) using the hashtag #CutelyCrafting.
Also this is my first D.I.Y or 'how to' so please bear with me if you couldn't understand what the frick frack I'm saying xD Write me a comment and tell me where you don't understand something so I can improve for next time.
Thank you for tuning in for my first crafting special. Keep tuned for the next one which will hopefully be in two weeks time. BUT I will be posting a book review on Sunday (hopefully). So you next time cutie ♡
